The Importance of Environment Detail: Bali Villa
Discover how incorporating environmental details in 3D architectural renders can enhance client sales. Explore the case study of "Bali Villa" render, showcasing the importance of factors such as turbidity, sunlight, vegetation, and seasonal variations. Immerse your audience in the authentic experience of Bali's captivating views and ambiance.
Fact: Studies have shown that incorporating 3D architectural visualization renders into marketing materials can significantly boost client sales, with an average increase of 30% in conversion rates.
One of the marketing factors that will help our clients are the environmental detail of a render. Let’s say you have a render in Bali, then you’d also be paying for a Bali view. The clients need those environmental details to be in the render in order to truly show what they have to offer.
A project of ours, “Bali Villa” will be our study case today.
Turbidity, as portrayed in the render, we can see that the skies along with the sunset has a pink-ish amber hue. This happens when there are more aerosols or fine particulate particles in the air to scatter and reflect the sunlight spectrum. The skies you see in the render are based on the skies we see every day of the week. (FYI: 2G Studio’s main office is located in Bali.)
Sunlight and time of day, depending on the client’s needs and wants, we have to set the sunlight according to the time of day, the purpose and story the render has to present. For Bali Villa, a sunset render showing how romantic it is during the sunset. We wanted the render to not just be an image, but a whole experience.
Vegetation varies from location to location. The vegetation used in Bali Villa render are all specific vegetations that lives in Bali, a tropical island that has many vegetation varieties. Palm trees scattered across, lily pads, etc.
Seasonal variations of weather in the Bali Villa shows what Bali is like in our dry season. Tropical countries have 2 seasons, rainy and dry. Each season is 6 months long. The dry season skies are depicted by how clear the skies are and how scattered and light colored the clouds are.
We believe that in creating a 3d render, there are no shortcuts. To deliver the experience and mood, it has to be purely details on top of details. In the Bali Villa render you can also see how the horizon is, and how sunlight reflects on it.
When it comes to creating the "Bali Villa" render, we understand the significance of highlighting not only our exceptional building modeling skills but also the allure of the location itself. In Bali, it's not just about providing comfortable beds or showcasing cool architectural designs; it's about offering an immersive experience that encompasses breathtaking views and captures the essence of Bali.

Transforming Hospitals with Light: Creating a Comforting and Welcoming Ambience
Step into the world of East Tennessee Children's Hospital render, where the vision of a comforting and welcoming space comes to life. Learn how the combination of natural and artificial lighting, including the warmth of golden hour and the contrast of dark clouds, played a vital role in creating an environment that offers solace and healing. Discover the power of lighting in transforming hospitals into refuges where young warriors can find respite and comfort on their journey to recovery.
The render of East Tennessee Children’s hospital was driven by the idea that hospitals shouldn’t be a dark, scary place which children avoid. Hospitals were meant to be a comforting and welcoming place, a place of refuge for our young warriors. To accommodate our warriors who need rest.
In order to achieve the comforting ambience we wanted to present through the rendering, there were many approaches. One of which was through modeling and lighting. Both aspects work hand in hand, each with their own roles and purposes to provide the mood we were trying to achieve.
Creating mood through modeling and lighting is a one combo package. As we wanted to make use of both natural and artificial lighting.
Natural lighting, the warmth and welcoming:Natural lighting gives off a warm and welcoming ambience, uplifting the whole mood of the render. As natural light is one of the key aspects of a great render, especially a comfy one. The natural warm tones of the sunlight, especially the golden hour peeking at the back and the light entering the building through the transparent bridges feels safe. The transparent bridges and roof on the outdoor space on top allows natural light to enter, giving a feeling of freedom. As we’re able to see out to the world, and not feel caged.
The dark clouds serve as a contrast to the golden hour, with the dark clouds the warm tones are able to shine even more. Proving that there’s always sunshine after a storm.
Artificial lighting:Natural lighting’s limited availability means that there has to be something constant. A safety net that assures when even there’s no sun out, we’ll have sun in. Warm choices of lights shows us even in parts of the hospital where sunshine doesn’t enter, it still provides the same warmth and welcoming nature.
A similar case of utilizing both natural and artificial lighting is “Senja Coffee & Memories”, where we also wanted to create a calm and inviting environment. An eye catcher, as when the streets are dark, here it is shining and waiting for you to come.
In conclusion, the rendering of East Tennessee Children's Hospital focused on creating a comforting and welcoming environment through the use of modeling and lighting. Natural lighting, including the golden hour and light entering through transparent features, brought warmth and a sense of safety. The contrast of dark clouds enhanced the overall ambiance. Artificial lighting complemented the natural light, providing a consistent source of warmth and reassurance. Together, these lighting techniques successfully transformed the hospital's atmosphere, offering a refuge where children can find comfort and healing.

Designing a children's hospital is a delicate balance between aesthetics and functionality. Gone are the days when hospitals were seen as cold, sterile places. Today, the emphasis is on creating warm and comforting environments that promote healing and well-being. One crucial element in achieving this transformation is the careful selection of colors. As a 3D architectural visualization company, we understand the psychology of color and its impact on the emotional state of young patients. In this article, we explore the significance of color choices in creating a welcoming and reassuring atmosphere within a children's hospital.
The Power of Color:
Colors have the ability to influence human emotions and behaviors. When it comes to healthcare settings, particularly those for children, it is essential to create an environment that is uplifting, calming, and non-intimidating. Let's explore some key colors and their psychological effects:
Serene Blues: Blue is known for its calming properties, evoking feelings of tranquility and reducing anxiety. Blue as one of the main colors of the exterior, provides a safety net, to lead the mind into a state of calm.
Cheerful Yellows: Yellow is associated with energy, happiness, and optimism. It can brighten up spaces and create a positive atmosphere. Yellow lighting used indoors, and the golden hour evokes a sense of joy and enthusiasm, fostering a welcoming environment for children.
Soothing Greens: Green symbolizes nature, balance, and healing. It is a color that promotes a sense of harmony and renewal. The greens shown outside bring a lively atmosphere towards the image as a whole.
Playful Splashes of Color: Vibrant pops of colors like red and orange represents the changing of seasons. These bold colors stimulate enthusiasm, and a sense of adventure. Autumn, the season where the environment encourages exploration and joy.
Creating a Warm and Reassuring Atmosphere:
From a technical standpoint, achieving the desired ambiance involves considering several factors:
Lighting: Lighting plays a pivotal role in highlighting colors and creating a welcoming atmosphere. Natural light enhances the perception of color and positively impacts mood. East Tennessee children’s hospital is designed to let natural light in, see-through roofs on the outdoor section on top, transparent bridges and the windows in every room.
A similar case, Senja Coffee & memories is also designed to utilize warm colors both renders achieving a welcoming and comforting ambience.
Color Harmonization: Careful coordination of colors throughout the hospital ensures a coherent and pleasing visual experience. Harmonious color combinations, such as complementary or analogous schemes, contribute to a calming and inviting atmosphere. These combinations can be achieved through the selection of appropriate paint colors, textiles, furniture, and artwork.
Texture and Material Choices: Integrating various textures and materials can add depth and tactile interest to the design. Soft fabrics, warm woods, and textured surfaces create a comforting environment that engages children's senses and promotes a sense of security.
Tailoring colors to achieve the desired mood through weather, the red and orange trees outside indicate that it’s autumn, paired with dark tones of clouds, as well as puddles, it indicates that it’s autumn. Through the colors of the environment a sense of freshness and cool air can be felt, as if the scent of petrichor can be felt through our emotions.
When it comes to designing a children's hospital, the psychology of color cannot be underestimated. By understanding the emotional impact of different colors, East Tennessee children’s hospital offers a warm, welcoming, and comforting experience. From serene blues to cheerful yellows and soothing greens, each color choice plays a crucial role in transforming a hospital into a haven for young patients. By carefully considering lighting, color harmonization, and texture, a children's hospital can become a place where children feel safe, supported, and on the path to recovery.
Making of East Tennessee Children's Hospital Exterior Rendering: Bringing Hope and Joy to Life

Discover how color choices and design principles defied conventional hospital norms, creating a beacon of hope and refuge for young warriors. Witness the transformative power of architecture and 3D visualization, as warmth and joy radiate from every corner of this remarkable healthcare space.
A few years ago, 2G Studio was approached by a client to help envision the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, an architectural piece that is meant to symbolize a beacon of hope, and a place of refuge for young warriors who are fighting their battles. At that time, we didn’t have the name of the hospital yet, it was an early stage of the project. The only information we had was that it is meant to be a children's hospital located in East Tennessee, and we were headstrong on making a render image that looks photorealistic.
In the hope of bringing the vision to life as accurately as possible, the team started with the architecture of the building. It is a dynamic design. Colorful, fun, yet functional and stern. From personal experience in a hospital, we remember the importance of using colors to lighten up the hospital, so we tried to integrate that too and make sure its presence was noticeable. But as time went on, we realized that the building was not just about creating a good photorealistic image. We wanted it to be alive, feel alive, as it is meant to house the bravest little warriors and they deserve more than just a building.
In realizing this, we understood that that was what the designer had wanted all along. The hardest part was bringing the warmth to a building concept that is often associated with horror and loss. That is why the building was designed the way it is. In the process of this, we realized that it’s not just about the building itself, but the ambiance around it also matters. How the lighting enters the building to bring warmth and brightness, how we all may bring the feeling of comfort, love, while keeping the sense of being at home. Transparent bridges, minimalistic windows, and a remarkable see-through roof were integrated to foster a sense of freedom, liberating the children from any feelings of confinement.
But it wasn't just about the physical environment; it was about capturing the essence of the season. As we went with the project, we learned that East Tennessee was a beautiful place to enjoy the fall season, Autumn. We thought that it would be a great opportunity to showcase this, as that particular season was the perfect time for children to come out and play. The revitalizing air breathed new life into their spirits, and the puddles outside invited them to embrace the joy of the outdoors.
This project was a heartwarming adventure, proving that hospitals can transcend their conventional image of fear and apprehension. East Tennessee Children's Hospital became a testament to the transformation of healthcare spaces into havens of warmth and joy.
As the final renderings came to life, we couldn't help but feel an immense sense of pride. We had the privilege of contributing to a place where healing meets joy. East Tennessee Children's Hospital became a testament to the power of architecture, design, and 3D visualization in creating spaces that truly make a difference in the lives of young patients and their families.
In the end, it's not just a 3D rendering; it's a story of hope, love, and the remarkable resilience of our young warriors. East Tennessee Children's Hospital stands as a testament to the profound impact we can make through our artistry and creativity.

House Gulm 2nd Edition
Discover the journey of testing V-Ray 3.0 and exploring new techniques in House Gulm 2nd Edition. Uncover the challenges, advancements, and stunning results achieved in this captivating blog post.
Hello everyone, It’s been a while since my last blog post. As a registered V-Ray user, I had the chance to be one of V-Ray 3.0’s beta testers around the end of September 2013, a little while before I became one of the speakers for the V-Ray Community Meeting Asia Pacific Tour on October 2013. At the time I created the “Simplistic Cozy Pantry” scene and managed to test one of the new features: Progressive Rendering.
After the tour I didn’t have any more chance to test V-Ray 3.0 Beta due to my busy schedule and rushed hours meetings, lots of deadlines and all our clients asking to finish their projects before the Christmas Holidays. Finally the holiday season came, we delivered on time and then got back to some deeper testing of V-Ray 3.0. Some of you might think that I’m a workaholic but trust me, I’m not. I always say that this is what CEO’s do, work on holidays and have holidays on work days, but apparently I’m still working this very day.
I used the same scene created for 2G Academy’s workshop for Universitas Tarumanagara back then but this time using a different technique. For the workshop rendering I only used V-Ray Sun and V-Ray Sky. This time I tried V-Ray Light Dome and used one of our own HDRI’s and at last had some free time to try Brute Force (previously we always used Irradiance Map). This scene was actually finished around January 2014 but I didn’t have a chance to post it or write about it in our blog.
I tested both of the normal production rendering (BF + LC) and the V-Ray RT GPU. In December our studio migrated to Itoo Software’s Forest Pack Pro because they have lots of flexibility and most importantly, they support the V-Ray RT GPU rendering and keep developing it.
For the production rendering test I used Brute Force + Light Cache, I tried to create a cloudy evening and still have the red sun shining.
Since this is my first try using BF + LC, I found out lots of problems and unfortunately found the problem after the rendering finished. As you can see on the raw render image, there are lots of fire flies scattered on the ceiling, white wall and the wooden wall. I used a render farm to render this image and it required approximately 30 minutes. I used my i7 3930k processor for the workstation and used 2 Boxx computers (32 threads each) and 4 Dual Xeon Pc’s (40 threads each). The fire flies happen when we have a very bright and burnt reflection. Fortunately V-Ray 3.0 already has the solution for this; they have a new feature to remove the fire flies issue, it’s called Max Ray Intensity. Unfortunately I forgot to turn it on. Brute Force has lots of problems when it comes to rendering trees or grass, mostly with the very dense leaves/grass it requires lots of samples to do the rendering. I tested this scene with V-Ray 2.4 and it required approximately 55 minutes. With V-Ray 3.0 now it’s so much faster than V-Ray 2.4. Thanks to the faster Ray Caster and the Embree option to speed up everything. Embree is an option to enable the Intel Embree Ray Caster and boost the rendering even faster.
Well anyways, I’m not going to discuss any technique in this blog, so here are the two images I created using BF and LC. I tweaked the sky to get a more dramatic look, played with motion blur for the clouds and added some fog using Z-Depth.
After testing the production rendering, I tried to do it using V-Ray RT GPU. Even though it’s not perfect, V-Ray RT can now be used for production rendering and can also produce render elements. Even though not all render elements are available, the crucial ones are such as Reflection, Refraction, GI, Lighting, and Light Select. Another point is that GPU’s nowadays have more memory. We managed to get our hands on the GTX Titan which has 2688 cores and 6 GB of RAM (and now NVIDIA announced the GTX Titan Black, it’s just great!). IToo Forest Pack has also really helped when they announced that it would support the V-Ray RT GPU. It really helps to scatter the grass and the trees and we don’t need to use lots of V-Ray proxies for GPU rendering saving lots of time and helping maximize the GPU memory.
For this scene it still requires around 1 hour using 1 GTX Titan. V-Ray RT is based on brute force, so when it comes to rendering trees and grass it needs more time since it needs to calculate lots of samples. Even though the result is produced using the V-Ray 3.0 Beta version, the result still looks good for some small – medium scale projects. These are the results using V-Ray 3.0 RT GPU. You can now check my review about V-Ray 3.0 RT GPU rendering.
Here are the results using V-Ray 3.0 RT GPU:
Pool Project (Photo Montage) Breakdown
Dive into the fascinating breakdown of Equinox UK's pool project (photo montage), as we unveil the remarkable transformation. Explore the challenges, techniques, and client satisfaction behind this captivating endeavor. Witness the power of post-production and the artistry that brought the mosaic material to life. Join us on this captivating journey of creativity and transformation.
Hi guys, this is last month project from equinox UK. A mosaic company. I think this project is very interesting, Its a very small project, we only need to change the material of the pool wall and enhance the pool water and also the Blink effect on the material. The challenging part is not doing the photo montage, but creating the mosaic material effect as the client want. Its drive us crazy that time, but finally the client very very satisfied with the result.
At first we got the data contain the photo of the pool, the size of the pool and the mosaic material. The mosaic material have very very small resolution and the material not specially made for the rendering, so we have to tweak all of them in photoshop (and i mean a lot!).
What we did first of course modeling the pool and the area near the pool. We used SketchUp pro 8.0 to do the match photo.
After that we import it to 3dsmax 2012 to do the rest of the job. Since this project using mosaic, and the texture given by the client, we cannot just use mere bitmap because it will look tiling, if u don’t want to look tiling, you will need to create the material in photoshop as the same size of the pool wall, and it will consuming lots of time. Therefore we decided to use floor generator by cg-source.com. This free script really handy when it comes to tile like object.
Here are the screenshots:
Below is the raw render result, its pretty good before we do the post production:
What the client wants is to get the blink effect, and to add some more ripple on the water, to give more volume, and it was a correct demand, volume is everything. To get the blink effect we simply use magic bullet diffusion and star filter. The rest we enhanced using color balance, hue saturation channel mixer. Nothing magical and nothing special about the post production process.
Here are all the final images:
Thanks to Paul to give us a great opportunity to do this project, we are so excited to do it.
