2G Studio Got Award of Excellence
Unveiling 2G Studio's path to excellence as we celebrate the coveted Award of Excellence from ASAI. Experience the transformative power of architectural illustration, pushing boundaries and embracing innovation. Join our journey of passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to artistic achievement.
In December 2013, 2G Studio became a member of ASAI (The American Society of Architectural Illustrators). We’d like to thank Masaki Yamada for his recommendation of becoming an ASAI member. Masaki Yamada is the Chief Illustrator of Nikken Sekkei, Tokyo, ASAI delegate of Asia and the former president of ASAI.
Previously we didn’t know about ASAI or AIP (Architecture in Perspective) Awards and once we opened the ASAI website, there were lots of great and stunning work. For example, most of the wins of the Hugh Ferriss Memorial Prize were Neoscape. Obviously after looking at these pieces, we were on fire of excitement and eager to submit our work.
Every year, ASAI holds AIP awards. About 60 pieces of artwork are selected by a jury of architecture, design and illustration professionals. Unfortunately we couldn’t submit our previous portfolio since it’s based on photo references of an already built project and a requisite is that it has to be based on an unbuilt one. At the time I was re-doing the Bali Villa scene from my old portfolio, ‘twas more like unfinished business, so there was a re-designing of the project on the Christmas Holidays and a continuation of the creation of the modelling, texturing and final image renderings after the holidays. We only had 1 week to finish the scene and submit the image so we were working hard to meet the deadline. Finally we managed to submit the image and we are very happy to announce that the Bali Villa scene got an Award of Excellence. Here are the 2 images submitted for AIP 29 for ASAI:

Now I’d like to write about some of the problems we encountered when doing the scene instead of just writing about how happy I am that our studio got one of the awards. We (yes “we” because 2GS is always about team work and not just personal) had big problems when doing the realistic thatched roof, 3d plants (since some plants just cannot be found ready-made modelled anywhere on the internet), scattering the plants and tiled textures. Thank God one of our senior artist friends Andri Iskandar helped us with the thatched roof. He taught us how to do it and we could finally get a realistic and very fast rendering time thatched roof (not using hair and fur nor V-Ray Fur). One of my friend from Vietnam Phanh Vn helped us with the gazebo. For the 3d plants, GrowFx really helped us to create customized 3d plants in a fast way. The other plugin which helped us a lot is of course Forest Pack Pro from iToo Software for the scattering of the 3d plants in no time and this gave us a lot of flexibility. Last but not least, the simple but very powerful plugin, Vizpark’s Wall & Tiles.
Baliness design has lots of tiled textures so there is no way we could have used a big bitmap to do the randomizing and the other reason is arranging the randomizing in Photoshop is really painful to do, too many back and forth which made us loose our breath even before we started. Using Wall & Tiles, we only needed 8-10 textures and we obtained very random textures (hundreds of textures). Vizpark’s Wall & Tiles really, really helped us to save lots of time and lots of RAM.
I’d like to point out that in our studio, instead of giving up because we cannot find a pre-made model out there, we choose to learn about Grow Fx, modelling, texturing, shaders, lighting, etc. Until now we are still learning, testing, practicing. There’s 4 of us at 2GS and can’t say that all the team members have equal skills but that each of us have our own specialties. We individually always try to overcome our limits and there’s only one way to do this and it’s by practicing.
Last year, 2013, we had a very rare opportunity, we were able to meet our mentor, Pawel Podwojewski from MOTYW when he visited Bali. He always says, practice is the only way, there is no other way. Another point is that I consider myself to not have any sense of art since I graduated from Civil Engineering, my parents and brothers are business men, so I grew up in a business family. However, Evan has a very high sense of art, in junior high school, he was even able to draw a barongsai from Bali using only a pencil. He comes from an art family, his parents are very good with art, mostly his mother. So I can say I’ve learned art from Evan, he’s taught me lots of things about art and camera composition and I’ve taught him how to run a business. Since I lack the sense of art, all I can do is keep practicing day by day. In the beginning it was very painful but now it’s paid off. The other team members Bayu and Yasin, are very good with Sketchup modelling, they like to play with the models and have mastered Grow Fx in a very short time.
To submit the images for AIP 29, we learned a lot in only a week (Yes, we only had 1 week to finish the entire work) and I really mean a lot! I always believe that as long as we want to fight and work as a team, we can always surpass our limits. It’s not that we aren’t happy with the Award of Excellence we got from ASAI, we consider it a huge honor, we come from nothing and now we can get one of the highest honors that the architectural illustration profession can bestow, but what makes us happy at 2GS, especially for me, is that our hard work is what makes us now. Maybe… just maybe, this is what the Award of Excellence is all about.
The next blog entry will be the story behind the Bali Villa and what makes 2GS like now.
How CGI Can Help You To Sell The Property Faster
Discover the game-changing potential of CGI in accelerating property sales. Explore how visual storytelling through CGI captivates potential buyers, driving interest and demand. From eye-catching designs to immersive narratives, unleash the power of CGI to leave a lasting impression. Experience the transformative impact of CGI in fast-tracking property sales and unlocking new levels of success."
“Time is money” this quotes makes CGI become one of the essential keys in property marketing. CGI can help you start selling your property and create interest and demand on the market while the property is under construction.
So here is what you need to know about CGI and how it can help you in property marketing.
What kind of CGI that converts?
CGI is “Computer Generated Images” that bring the design into reality. It can be both exterior or interior images. It does not just need to be photorealistic, but they also need to deliver the message or value from the property itself. For the first impression, CGI needs to be eye-catching to drive potential customer attention and want to know more about the property.
Visual Storytelling that Sells
We believe that every image needs to have a soul so that the potential buyers will see more than just a property. The story becomes an essential factor when creating a CGI more than just a photorealistic rendering. It creates interest and makes the potential buyers have more imagination, experience, and emotion connected to them when seeing the CGI. In the end, it makes them want to buy the property.
How we use the CGI?
Website
A website becomes one of the branding and marketing strategies because it makes it more comfortable to reach you through the internet. It is more like an office or marketing suite in the online world. When people stay longer on the website, Google will help rank the website to the first pages and makes people more comfortable to reach you.
Tips: Putting a short CGI animation on the landing page will make potential buyers impressed, and put a panoramic tour will add visitors’ duration on the website
Social Media
On average, people use their time 2 hours 22 minutes on social media every day. That’s why social media becomes one of the best platforms for branding and marketing. Social media advertising is also doing a great job at a low cost because you can reach more audiences with less cost than offline. This platform is good for increasing brand awareness and capture new organic leads.
Tips: Multiply your content and combine it with lifestyle to get more organic engagement
Print Media
Prints like in the brochure, posters, and large prints are still the number one format to present the CGI. It can help you build authority and trust because people can see it using their own eyes and feel the brochure prints.
Tips: Use high resolution rendering on large prints to get maximum result on prints

Entry for Non-Commissioned Project for CGI and Animation
We create unique CG animation for this 3D award by CG Architect. It was inspired by pandemic Covid 19 that happen in 2020. Which lockdown everywhere, people can’t catch up with each other, and it suddenly happens, we know it’s hard for everyone, but we believe that we can through this together.
Please Enjoy this CG Animation that we submit for the 3d Award, it’s architectural animation, combined with movie effect with some stories inside.
In non-commissioned architectural CGI, we submit one of the best images we create on the Pressure Challenge that we do internally in 2G studio. This project called Born Neo, which means New Born, is designed as a new face of the architecture concept of City Hall in the new capital city of Indonesia, located in Kalimantan Island.
We Can Consider Nominated in 3D Award Is Already A Big Win.
We never thought to be nominated for the most prestigious award in the architectural visualization industry because there are a thousand images submitted in this competition. Many top 3d architectural rendering companies and 3d artists are a part of this competition, and somehow our Borneo CGI got nominated in the non-commissioned categories. The design was inspired by Zaha Hadid Architect’s design and the rendering style inspired by our friend Pedro Fernandes from Arqui9.
We can say that got nominated for the CG Architect 3D Award is a significant achievement for Indonesia’s architectural visualization industry.
Thank You!
Congrats to the Winners! Big thanks to all the Judges and also CG Architects for fantastic competition in the Architectural visualization industry. For 2G Studio all stars, thank you for the hard work, and this award is for you!
Congrats to the winners!
Giving Back to the Architectural Visualization Community
Discover how we give back to the architectural visualization community with AVIS.ID and 2G Academy. Unlock the potential of Indonesian 3D artists, providing them with essential skills and opportunities to grow their businesses. Experience the power of collaboration and support in nurturing a thriving ecosystem for architectural visualization.
Why we start the movement?
We believe that Indonesian 3D artists have good artistic skills because Indonesia has a strong culture and arts. Still, most of them didn’t get any exposure and didn’t get any chance to show their talent to the world through Architecture 3D Visualization.
2G Studio was born from an Indonesian Architecture Visualization Community called IDVN, a place where Indonesian artists share their knowledge in the 3D architectural visualization industry, learn together, grow together, and help each other.
AVIS.ID and 2G Academy
We decide to create a new community for 3D visualizers or 3D artists in Indonesia called Architecture Visualization Indonesia, or we can spell it AVIS.ID. This community is a part of our movement to help Indonesian 3D artists to learn 3D Rendering skills and grow their business in the Architectural Visualization Industry. We also bring back our 2G Academy as an educational platform to learn the technique based on our experience in 3d visualization industry for more than ten years. We are continuously providing content, blogs, vlogs, tutorials, and creating many events like online portfolio review, business and mindset talk, and Architalk to help them grow in terms of skills and mindset to help them grow in this architectural visualization industry.
Why we need an Architectural Visualization Community?
We believe that a positive environment can help people learn and grow three times faster because they can help each other when they encounter an obstacle. Motivate each other and inspires others so this community will grow stronger and becomes like family. And the most important thing is we have a place called HOME.
Road Show on 5 Big Cities in Indonesia
We are creating a unique workshop program to create professional interior renderings with corona render. This event was held in 5 Big Cities, Bali, Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, right before Covid 19 virus spreading in Indonesia. We are fortunate that we can meet in person and share our knowledge on offline events.
What did we do during the pandemic Covid-19?
The covid-19 virus hit us starting around March 2020. Many projects become on hold, and business suddenly stopped. We decided to create something for our architectural visualization community to use this lockdown time to learn something new and get ready after the new normal start. We create tutorials to create professional 3D Interior Rendering and put these tutorials on our youtube channel. It’s totally free, and everyone can have access to learn from our knowledge. Of course, it’s using the Indonesian language because our movement is for the Indonesian 3D Artist.
Besides that, we also do some free portfolio online reviews and business and mindset talks every week to keep in touch with each other, learn something new, share our knowledge, and hold hands together to get through this pandemic.
